Citation Wins $50-Million Brake
Program
Foundry group Citation Corp. reports it recently won a $50-million
contract for new business from Continental Teves, to supply iron-cast
brake components for hybrid small cars and crossover utility vehicles in
the North American market.

Two Foundries Gain Quality
Certifications
US Aluminum Castings reports it completed certification for the ISO
TS-16949 standard, a global standard that certifies continuous
improvement programs for defect prevention and supply-chain waste
elimination. The Bradken-Amite steel foundry in Amite, LA, achieved ABS
certification to produce steel castings for marine applications.

Alcoa Howmet Cuts Employment at Investment
Casting Plant
Alcoa Howmet has laid off over 20% of the workforce at its Hampton,
VA, investment casting plant, citing weak demand for industrial gas
turbines. Two-hundred and fifty positions were eliminated earlier this
month; the plant reportedly had a workforce of 1,060 prior to the
layoffs.

Operators at ThyssenKrupp’s Waupaca Plant in Marinette, WI, found
a way to boost plant productivity and provide a safer and cleaner
atmosphere for workers by switching to a new abrasive wheel for hand
grinding.
