MetalTek International, a foundry holding company based in Waukesha, WI, reports it acquired Meighs Castings Ltd., an English foundry serving defense industries and other markets in need of casting for “demanding, highly corrosive applications,” according to a June 26 release.
No price has been reported. Meighs, with its foundry in Stoke-on-Trent, England, had been owned by Langley Alloys Ltd. Plans call for the operation to remain in its present location with its current management team.
MetalTek’s CEO Robert Smickley called Meighs “a great company with a strong reputation for quality products delivered to demanding customers. This acquisition fits our vision to supply corrosion-resistant products worldwide, and opens up European sales channels for our entire MetalTek offering.”
Meighs uses a casting technology called the Durville “tilt-pour” process to produce components for defense and offshore valve markets. Its castings are offered in various alloys, including aluminum bronze, super austenitic and duplex stainless steels, and nickel-based and other corrosion-resistant materials.
MetalTek has five plants in the U.S.: Bearium Metals and Southern Centrifugal, both in Chattanooga, TN; Carondelet Corp., in Peveley, MO; Wisconsin Centrifugal, in Waukesha, WI; and Wisconsin Investcast, in Watertown, WI.
MetalTek states it produces castings in 450 different materials for customers using static, centrifugal, investment, and continuous casting processes. It targets industries demanding heat-, wear-, and corrosion-resistant castings, including petrochemicals, turbines, naval defense, power transfer, process equipment, metalworking, and mining and mineral processes.
“The synergies between the two companies are clearly apparent, and MetalTek hopes to expand both Meighs’ and MetalTek’s presence in the U.K. and Europe at large, through a consistent focus on superior customer service, technological solutions, and the wealth of MetalTek’s broad capabilities,” Smickley stated.
Smickley added that MetalTek will continue to seek “creative ways to grow and serve our customers around the world.”
