Neenah to Close Gregg Industries
California iron foundry set for shutdown in mid May
Neeenah Enterprises Inc. has decided to close its Gregg Industries Inc. subsidiary in El Monte, CA, citing declining sales and generally poor economic conditions. Neenah, the holding company for Neenah Foundry Co. and headquartered in Neenah, WI, acquired the iron-casting operation in late 1999.
Gregg Industries, established in the 1940s, is a manufacturer of “complex, highly cored” ferrous castings for automotive, truck, and other industrial markets. The facility includes a variety of coremaking and molding equipment, as well as five induction furnaces, and facilities for machining and heat-treating finished castings.
"Most of the remaining 225 workers at Gregg will receive notices this week that the plant will close approximately in mid-May 2009,” according to a statement by v.p. and general manager Jeff Hillier. “We are acting in accordance with the United States Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act (WARN) and California regulations, giving employees 60 days notice of our closure."
Another Neenah holding, Dalton Corp., announced in December it would close one of its plants in March.
