Many refractory products are custom-developed and manufactured for particular applications, and also usually contaminated with material they have absorbed while lining furnaces or ladles, which makes the recycling process a challenge.

Surfacing, brazing products developer adds more specialty casting capability Price undisclosed New subsidiary operation Integrating expertise, sales and marketing, business goals

Michigan-based Wall Colmonoy Corporation acquired Franklin Bronze & Alloy Company Inc. in late August, adding more specialty metalcasting capacity to the organization widely known for supplying surfacing and brazing products. The value of the purchase was not announced.

According to Bill Clark, chairman and CEO of Wall Colmonoy, “Franklin Bronze Precision Components, LLC. … adds a strategic partnership of two companies offering metallurgical solutions and alloys.”

Franklin Bronze, Lebanon, PA, and reportedly the oldest operating foundry in that state, produces investment castings in brass, aluminum, and stainless steel for glass molding accessories, valves and fittings, gears, splines, levers, arms, and other mechanical and industrial castings. It also has sand casting capabilities for the same range of metals, for valves and pumps, electrical control parts, heat-resistant castings, and bronze bushings.

Franklin Bronze has been renamed Franklin Bronze Precision Components LLC and operates as a wholly owned subsidiary of Wall Colmonoy.

Wall Colmonoy manufactures nickel- and cobalt-based alloys for laser-cladding or thermal spraying. It also produces nickel-, copper-, and iron-based brazing alloys. Its Precision Components division has investment casting, centrifugal casting, and vacuum casting capabilities, as well as multiple finish machining capabilities, for customers operating in aerospace, automotive, chemical, food processing, glass, marine, oil-and-gas, power generation, and steel industries

The buyer noted that Wall Colmonoy and Franklin Bronze will integrate expertise, sales and marketing teams, and business goals.

Bob Barber, the former owner of Franklin Bronze, and now director of Business Development for the merged organization, “The synergy between Franklin Bronze and Wall Colmonoy provides opportunities to grow within the industries we already serve and develop new markets.”
