The two foundries of the Busche Performance Group will be supplied with up to 70 million lbs./year of aluminum raw material by MetalX, a Waterloo, IN-based recycling business. In their joint release, the two parties explained that MetalX has assumed responsibility for managing all activities related to “sourcing, procurement, delivery, and administration associated with aluminum scrap and refined aluminum products consumed and generated by BPG’s aluminum foundries.”
MetalX president and CEO Danny Rifkin called the partnership “the result of a joint effort to develop a sourcing model that will allow BPG’s foundries to concentrate on the design and manufacture of aluminum castings … and at the same time benefit from the savings that will arise from a comprehensive metals management strategy.”
The foundries will maintain responsibility for paying suppliers, establishing material specifications, and governing terms and conditions.
The two foundries at Franklin, IN, and Fruitport, MI, produce aluminum automotive parts (knuckles, control arms, brackets, structural components). The group also consists of a several precision machining operations in Indiana, Michigan, and Mexico; and it develops custom hydraulic workholding systems for horizontal, vertical, four-axis, five-axis, and manual machining set-ups.
"This agreement will allow the foundry division to be better connected to the aluminum markets and gain significant benefits from the MetalX team’s expertise with buying and selling of aluminum raw materials in the metals marketplace," stated Daniel Dressler, BPG vice president of procurement and business development.
"This will also allow BPG foundries to focus on growing their foundry operations and ‘partner’ with a highly-regarded metals recycling and trading company that already has demonstrated performance with managing scrap for all of our US machining facilities," he added.
