Honda’s Ohio Plant Passes 25 Million Mark

After 32 years and $2.7-billion invested, a milestone for automaker’s engine plant and foundry

Honda of America Manufacturing Inc. reports its Anna (OH) Engine Plant has produced the 25 millionth engine since the operation opened in 1985.  The 1.5-liter turbo was produced on Line 4 at that location, and will be installed in a 2018 Honda Accord, to be assembled at the Marysville Auto Plant, 45 miles away from the Anna plant.

“Building 25 million engines is not just a major production milestone, but symbolic of the passion and commitment invested by our associates, past and present, to satisfy 25 million customers,” stated Paul Dentinger, plant manager of the Anna Engine Plant.

The Anna Engine Plant has four assembly lines and two casting operations. In addition to assembling the engines, the aluminum casting operation produces engine blocks and cylinder heads.

Along with the 1.5-liter engine, the Anna Engine Plant produces a turbo engine for the Civic Type-R, and engines and components for 14 Honda and Acura products made in Ohio, Indiana, Alabama, Canada and other locations.

Honda recently invested $47 million at the Anna Engine Plant in advance of production for a new engine series for 2018 Honda Accord, including two new, direct-injected VTEC Turbo 4-cylinder engines and the 2.0 i-VTEC Atkinson Cycle engine for the Accord Hybrid.

The automaker listed its total investment at the plant at more than $2.7 billion.

“We continue to invest in our plant and our people to build a new generation of Honda engine products for customers here and around the world,” according to Dentinger.
