Michigan Steel Marks ExpansionRothbury Steel Inc. is the latest incarnation of a Muskegon-area foundry long known as Kurdziel Iron Foundry, and briefly as Carlton Creek Ironworks. It was bought by Michigan Steel Inc. last year and reconfigured to melt steel as well as gray and ductile iron. |

Illinois Metalcaster Damaged by FireThe Westwick Foundry in Galena was badly damaged in a fire that reportedly started in the finish grinding operation and then spread to an area used to store patterns. |

Monolithics for High Temperatures
Morgan Thermal Ceramics is offering a high-strength, low-cement range of refractory monolithic lining materials for high-temperature applications. The series includes low-cement castable and low-cement gunning materials, and according to the developer they offer excellent resistance to chemical attack and abrasion, combining the performance of high-fired brick with the installation ease of a refractory castable.
Portable Shop-Floor CMM
Hexagon Metrology launched the Brown & Sharpe 4.5.4 SF coordinate measuring machines (CMMs), designed to perform reliably in harsh manufacturing environments. The SF series introduces a variety of advancements based on long experience with thousands of prior CMM models. With a focus on portability, the new series has a small footprint — 52.2×32.8×s79.5 in.
