Roberts Sinto Corporation, manufacturers of foundry and automation equipment, this year is marking its fiftieth anniversary supplying mold and coremaking machinery and handling systems to the metalcasting industry.
Lansing, MI-based Roberts Sinto Corp. is the North American operating unit of Sintokogio Ltd. It was established in 1964 as Roberts Corporation, an engineering and later a manufacturing business for foundry and automation equipment.
“When we first opened, it was not our intention to manufacture equipment,” explained Joseph Post, co-founder and past president of Roberts Corporation. “We quickly realized to move forward with the industry we needed to get our own manufacturing facility, and from then on the business grew quickly.”
The manufacturing operations started in 1966 in Grand Ledge, MI, a plant still in use today.
In 1973, Roberts Corp. became a part of the Cross and Trecker Company, a builder of machine tools and factory automation systems. In 1987, Roberts Corporation and Sintokogio Ltd., of Nagoya, Japan, established a joint venture to promote Sintokogio’s equipment in the North America — Roberts Sinto Corporation.
In 1989, Sintokogio became the sole shareholder of Roberts Sinto, as the company expanded its products and services to the full range it represents today.
Roberts Sinto Corporation will celebrate its 50th anniversary at an event August 8 in Lansing, with employees and families, including Sintokogio president Atsushi Nagai.
“The technology of Sintokogio has served North American metalcasters well in their efforts to produce high-performance castings, quickly and economically,” noted CEO Richard Stewart. “Further, we have been successful in leveraging Sinto technology into other related industries.”
