Oxford Instruments' new Foundry-Master Xpert is a cost-effective optical emission spectrometry analyzer for foundries, diecasters, and other metal producers. Solid-state technology and compact design make it available for continuous use in any location — testing laboratory or melt shop floor, even in extreme conditions.

The Foundry-Master Xpert delivers high-accuracy analyses, assures precise identification of materials, and covers critical elements with low levels of detection, e.g., lead, selenium, and lanthanum. There is virtually no restriction on the element selection, according to Oxford Instruments, and the highest levels of accuracy and precision of the analytical results are possible. The powerful yet easy-to-use software package ensures that nearly every application is covered. As a result, the cost of ownership is among the most affordable in this market sector.

A wide spectral range (130-800 nm) covers all interesting elements for any metal material, including nitrogen in steel. The lowest detection limits of a wide range of elements are guaranteed by a wide selection of different excitation parameters. A new, digitally controlled spark generator ensures stability and precision.

The sample stand is easy to access from three sides, and the size of the sample is not an issue: Place the sample on the stand, start the measurement, and read the results. Long-term stability is ensured by peak position alignment (PPA), and the vacuum optical system provides the best light transparency. An oil trap and oil-mist filter protect the unit from contamination.

The external PC workstation with Windows-based interface is familiar and intuitive, yet flexible, and the system's self-diagnostics are fully integrated. Argon consumption is minimal, due to the Oxford Instruments vacuum system that requires no purge gas. A new charge-coupled device (CCD) readout design lets users access OI’s Dynamic Integration Algorithm to achieve high-precision results. High-resolution, multi-CCD optics ensures the best possible spectral line separation. A digital spark generator is available with optimized discharge parameters for atomic lines, lowering detection limits of a wide range of elements.
