Improved Sand Cooling, Drying

The Bella Series 543 is a single installation performs drying, mixing, spraying, agglomerating, and cooling.

DYNAMIC AIR INC.’s Bella Series 543 mixer/dryer/cooler reportedly offers a better method for drying or cooling foundry sand, powders, granulates, and filter cakes. It can be used to dry, mix, spray, agglomerate, and cool — all in a single unit, reducing the need for additional equipment and saving the added purchase and operating costs.

Operation is said to be “extremely efficient” because air flows around the sand while it is suspended in the weightless zone of the mixer. This maximizes the total surface of the material that is exposed to the air, increasing the desired effect. The drying process will proceed through an adiabatic evaporation with thermal efficiency at about 80%. Only small air volumes are required compared with other fluidizing dryers.

Benefits identified by the system developer include better air distribution, which increases drying/cooling efficiency; homogeneous mixing during the drying/cooling process; low air volume that reduces filter requirements; that rotating paddles prevent material lumping and air channels; increased air contact that creates better thermal efficiency; random material/air movement that reduces drying/cooling time; gentle paddle motion that reduces shear; and low energy usage due to high thermal efficiency.
