Company sees $35 million in commitments for ’04
Impco Technologies Inc. says it has commitments from a number of OEMs that indicate sales for its emission-certified engine systems will rise by $35 million in 2004. The Cerritos, CA, company designs, manufactures, and supplies “advanced alternative fuel systems and related products” for makers of transportation, industrial, and power-generation equipment.

Impco chairman and CEO Robert Stemmler said, "We have an order backlog for engine and fuel system products of approximately $10 million scheduled for shipment in the first quarter of 2004,” and he cited a number of OEMs in the material handling field as proof: the NACCO Materials Handling Group Hyster and Yale brands, Hyundai, Mitsubishi, and Caterpillar. Stemmler said the remaining three quarters portend $25 million in commitments, and that he expected additional business as well.

"This new business is the result of a successful company growth strategy which began in 1999 to become a major Tier I supplier of emission certified engines to industrial off-highway OEMs when the EPA regulation became effective," according to Stemmler. He explained that Impco’s industrial engine business started as a $3.5-million enterprise in 1999 and will finish 2003 at over $20 million. He said the improvement “confirms the desire of off-highway OEMs to out-source their engine requirements rather than commit the capital and engineering expense to develop the necessary technology to emission certify engines.”
