Green-sand system for PPF; lost-foam line for Mercury
Vulcan Engineering Co., Helena, AL, reports two new contracts for metalcasting systems.

In the first, Vulcan will design, build, and install a new green-sand system for Production Pattern & Foundry Co. Inc. The San Leandro, CA, company is relocating its operations to a new facility in Carson City, NV.

Vulcan reports its contract calls for it to develop a complete new sand system, automatic mold-handling line, pallet line, casting shakeout, and an automated robotic finishing system. The target date for commissioning the new foundry is November 1.

In the second project, Vulcan announced it is modifying the pressurized lost-foam casting line at Mercury Castings in Fond du Lac, WI, in order to increase its production capacity.

The Mercury line manufactures components for Mercury’s In-Line 6 outboard marine engines – series of 200- to 275-hp four-stroke engines that are said to be "extremely" quiet. The new engine line is said to be increasing Mercury sales dramatically since they were introduced earlier this year.
