According to a report by the Cleveland Plain Dealer, Ford Motor Co. is making plans to revamp its V-6 engine production line at Engine Plant No.1 in Brook Park, OH. As explained to the newspaper by the mayor of that city, Ford has made a tax-abatement request as part of its plan to finance the upgrade.

Ford has no comment on the matter.

A local United Auto Workers official explained to the newspaper that the automaker will announce in May it plans to increase the size of the Duratec aluminum V-6 engine from 3.0 to 3.5 liters, in a strategy to increase the engine’s horsepower.

The V-6 is installed in the 2005 Ford Five Hundred and Freestyle and Mercury Montego models. Brook Park produces 325,000 of these units, and the UAW official predicted that volume would rise after the revamp.
