Aleris Completes Alumitech Inc. Acquisition

Recycler converts dross, salt cake to alloys

Aleris International Inc. has completed its previously announced purchase of Alumitech Inc. from Toronto-based Zemex Corp. Aleris a manufacturer of rolled aluminum products as well as a leading supplier of recycled aluminum specification alloys. It also produces zinc oxide, zinc dust, and zinc metal

Alumitech Inc. is also an aluminum recycler, but its proprietary technology converts aluminum dross and salt cake produced by secondary aluminum producers that convert scrap to alloys. It reportedly converts about 300 million lb of dross and 200 million lb of salt cake every year.

The purchase price is reported to be $29 million.
