Coremaker licenses organic sand-binder technology

Bender Foundry Service Inc., a coremaker in Sigourney, IA, announced today that it is now offering cores made with GMBOND Sand Binder. The company distributes foundry sand in addition to manufacturing high-quality cores.

“We are pleased to be able to provide our customers with innovative binder technology to help increase their competitiveness and efficiency,” stated Doug Bender, founder and president of the ompany.

GMBOND is a non-toxic, organic binder technology available through Hormel Foods Specialty Products. They indicate that cores made using the GMBOND process provide benefits to foundries that include easier shakeout, “significantly lower toxic emissions,” and reduced energy costs based on eliminating core baking. “Testing by the Casting Emission Reduction Program (CERP) has found that GMBOND reduces volatile organic compound (VOC) emissions by more than 90% in baseline comparisons to cores made with phenolic urethane resins,” according to Hormel.
