Site to continue operating as new owners study redevelopment

According to Georg Fischer AG, the Swiss industrial group has sold its former in steel foundry and the attendant properties in Schaffhausen to a local partnership Gabl AG and Klaiber AG, both of Schaffhausen.

The value of the transaction was not disclosed.

In July 2005 GF announced that it would comply with an April 2005 decision by the High Court of the Canton of Schaffhausen, upholding an administrative tribunal appeal against the demolition of the facility and a building permit for the site, issued by the cantonal authorities. As a result of the High Court decision, municipal and cantonal building authorities have begun a review of the planning documentation, with intent to redeveloping the site. According to GF,

“The buyers plan to play an active role in this new planning process and develop a new project based on this involvement.”

While the plan is being developed, the site will continue to operate in scaled-back fashion. in part until a new project is ready for implementation.

Georg Fischer produces iron and light metal castings for passenger and commercial vehicles, as well as pipe products for liquid and gas transportation.
