Re: Caterpillar’s Mapleton, IL, foundry

In the June issue of FM&T, p.6 , a news item (“Technocast Orders Sand-Prep System …”) included the following:

“In 2004 Caterpillar decided to downsize its Mapleton, IL, foundry, discontinuing production of engine blocks and heads there. At the time the Technocast joint-venture was unconfirmed, but the expectation had been that those Caterpillar-designed products would be manufactured in Mexico and supplied to Caterpillar plants in Mossville, IL, and Greenville, SC.”

A Caterpillar representative emphasizes that the Mapleton foundry continues to produce engine blocks, cylinder liners, and heads.

We regret the error.
