Indiana operation loses major customer order

July 2, 2006 -- According to local news reports, RMG Foundry in Mishawaka, IN, will close soon. The company employs an estimated 180 workers and staff. The company produces casts iron products for power-transmission equipment, but reportedly has lost a significant portion of business from its largest customer.

In a statement, the company announced: "We are disappointed that RMG will not be able to work in the future with its customers, associates, and vendors. Everyone at RMG will work hard to have the wind-down and closing go as smooth as possible."

RMG was founded in 1878 as the former Dodge Manufacturing Co. It was closed about seven years ago, but was reopened by new owners.

No closing date has been announced, but the United Steelworkers union representing the workers at RMG has been given the federally mandated 90-days warning of a shutdown.
