Pyromet brings new center of excellence

September 18, 2006 -- Techint Technologies reports it acquired Pyromet Technologies (Pty) Ltd. of Johannesburg, South Africa, for an unreported price. Pyromet designs and supplies of submerged arc furnaces used in the production of ferroalloys and base metals, a growing market serving increased specialty steel demand.

Pyromet's proprietary electrode system is described as being "at the highest level in terms of quality and reliability." Techint now claims it offers a complete range of high-tech melting and smelting electric arc furnaces.

As a division of Techint the Pyromet organization will operate as a center of excellence from South Africa, with its existing structure remaining in place.
