Increases capacity for recarburizing, slag foaming products

March 30, 2007 — Hickman, Williams & Co., which supplies foundry coke, ferroalloys, briquetted alloys, specialty metals and alloys, carbon additives, and a wide range of other products to primary steelmakers and metalcasters, has acquired Melting Materials Inc., Alloy & Metal Processors Inc., and Alloys & Carbon Inc. All three companies are headquartered in Birmingham, and do business as AMP/MMI.

The value of the transaction was not reported.

Hickman, Williams states the purchase will "substantially increase" its capacity for processing carbon products used primarily for recarburizing and slag foaming. Also, it will extend the company's reach to customers in the Southeast.

President and CEO William Snyder stated: “This is an exciting opportunity for us to expand our ability to serve steel mills and foundries in the region and carry on the strong reputation for quality and service that Melting Materials has established.”
