Employees will get assessments, year-long training in technology, manufacturing processes

June 15, 2007 — Cleveland-based Tooling University has been contracted by Metaldyne to offer on-line shop-floor training for its employees, as part of the manufacturer's corporate strategy of "continuous learning."

Metaldyne, Plymouth, MI, designs and produces metal-based automotive components, assemblies, and modules, such as engine, transmission/transfer case, wheel-end and suspension, axle and driveline, and noise and vibration control products. Its Metaldyne University program has been an ongoing effort since 2004.

Tooling University offers on-line training courses for manufacturing industry workers. Metaldyne ran a pilot program for the Tooling University training course at several of its locations, resulting in positive feedback that helped to convince the company to expand the effort.

Beginning this year Metaldyne will enroll more workers in the program, and each one receiving a subscription will have a year to finish a customized assessment and on-line training program.

Kim Kovac, exec. v.p. for Human Resources at Metaldyne, stated: "Metaldyne is only as successful as the people who work here. With the automotive industry continually and swiftly changing it's essential to keep our employees up to date on new technology and manufacturing processes. This relationship with Tooling University will help give them the tools they need to ensure that success."
