Two molding lines to be retrofitted, to process +80 tons/hour
July 17, 2007 — Simpson Technologies reports it has a new contract to supply sand-reclamation technology to Lufkin Industries for its two molding lines at the Lufkin, TX, foundry. Lufkin Industries is an integrated manufacturing group that produces gray- and ductile-iron castings, and sells and services oilfield pumping units, power transmission products, and highway trailers.

The foundry's two molding lines are being retrofitted with eight Simpson 4-Cell Pro-Claim systems, capable of reclaiming more than 80 tons/hour of molding sand.

Each Lufkin molding lines processes 40 tons/hour of phenolic urethane or furan no-bake bound sand.  Because its centrifugally induced, mechanical sand-reclamation system has had frequent maintenance problems and performance issues, Lufkin selected the Simpson Pro-Claim based on its record for "relatively low maintenance requirements and parts consumption."  In addition, a series of successful trials were conducted at Simpson’s  Aurora, IL, reclamation lab, and the reclaimed sand’s effectiveness for producing quality castings was confirmed in tests at Lufkin's foundry.

The new reclamation equipment will be commissioned by mid 2008.
