Hensley Earns Two Awards for Recycling
Programs have included beneficial reuse of sand, slag, and carbide-graphite electrodes
Dallas-based Hensley Industries reports it has earned the Recycling Alliance of Texas's 2007 Award for Outstanding Integrated Waste Management Program. The award was presented at the organization's annual gathering last month in Plano, TX.
Hensley Industries, a subsidiary of Komatsu Global Ltd., produces cast-steel products for mining and construction equipment, known as "ground engaging tools." The company also has received the 2007 Best Recycling Program Award from the North Texas Corporate Recycling Assn., in the category for companies with more than 100 employees. The second award was presented at the NTCRA's annual Environmental Vision Awards Luncheon on September 14.
In each case, Hensley was chosen over other Texas operations in different industries, and recognized for innovative beneficial reuse, recycling, and waste reduction programs implemented in 2006 and 2007.
Acording to Hensley, its total net savings over a nine-month period (November 2006-July 2007) have exceeded $614,000. The programs Hensley has implemented include beneficial reuse of foundry sand, furnace slag, and carbide-graphite electrodes, as well as paper, cardboard, wood waste, and core scrubber wastewater recycling.
For these efforts, Diana L. Lundelius, Hensley's environmental manager, and the foundry's recycling team were presented with Hensley's Presidential Award in May.
