Turnkey contract for shakeout, casting/sprue sorting, cooling, etc.

General Kinematics Corp. reports it has been contracted by ThyssenKrupp Waupaca Inc. to design and install the sand and casting handling system for the expansion project at the foundry group's Etowah, TN, plant. The Wisconsin-based metalcasting group announced the $162-million project in late September. The plan is to add a new ductile-iron production line to the six-year-old operation.

According to GK, it has a turnkey assignment to install systems for shakeout, casting and sprue sorting, casting cooling, and casting alignment prior to the continuous blast. The equipment will include General Kinematics' Spira-Cool casting cooling spiral, the largest such system yet to be built.

General Kinematics, Crystal Lake, IL, designs and builds vibratory and rotary material-handling and processing equipment.
