US Aluminum Castings Earns DOE Award

Washington foundry achieves over 7.5% total energy savings
US Aluminum Castings, Entiat, WA, has earned an Energy Saver Award from the U.S. Dept. of Energy’s Industrial Technology Program, for having achieved more than 75,000 MMBtu total energy savings (or, more than 7.5% total energy savings) and for reporting the progress on schedule.  

DOE/ITP’s Save Energy Now initiative aims to reduce industrial-energy intensity by 25% over 10 years. Participating companies are offered free energy assessments and available ITP resources to reduce energy usage — efforts that are also intended to increase profits. The Save Energy Now assessments focus on energy-intensive systems, including process heating, steam, pumps, fans, and compressed air.

ITP has honored 129 plants this year for their energy-saving progress identified through such assessments. The combined savings by these award recipients total $37 million and 2.9 trillion Btu of total energy.

US Aluminum Castings is a business unit of Advanced Metals Group L.L.C. that produces components for aviation, aerospace, heavy truck, military, and marine markets, using green sand, lost foam, permanent mold, and no-bake processes. In its assessment, it worked with Oregon State University’s Industrial Assessment Center to review its processes and to identify the cost-saving opportunities.
