Investment casting division aiming for comprehensive fleet-support capability
The Timken Co. reports it has acquired the assets of Extex Ltd., which designs of replacement engine parts for the aerospace aftermarket. No terms were released.

Extex is headquartered in Gilbert, AZ, and supplies compressor and turbine blades and vanes, shrouds, nozzles, and gears, among other products, for three engine families, including Rolls-Royce 250, Pratt & Whitney Canada PT6, and Honeywell auxiliary power units. The Extex product line includes nearly 600 Federal Aviation Administration parts manufacturer approval (PMA) components.

Timken, which is a specialty steelmaker and manufacturer of friction-management and power transmission products, also supplies parts to the aerospace aftermarket. It operates an investment casting operation in Mesa, AZ, where its products include turbine blades, vanes, nozzles, and turbine-engine hardware. Timken’s current portfolio includes over 1,400 PMA components.

According to Timken the expanded base of PMA components will position it to offer comprehensive fleet-support programs, including asset management for aircraft operators.

"The combination of Extex’s knowledge and engineering expertise with Timken’s manufacturing capabilities make it a great addition to Timken's growing aerospace aftermarket solutions business," stated J. Ron Menning, president - aerospace and defense. "As we accelerate our growth in this strategic market sector, we will continue to extend our capabilities to meet the needs of our expanding aerospace customer base.”
