Three new work cells project to revenue increase of $15 million
Thresher Industries Inc. is investing in new production technology it expects will increase manufacturing volume for aluminum and metal-matrix composite diecastings, and the range of markets it can supply. The news follows the Hanford, CA-manufacturer’s recent appointment of a client firm to provide sales and engineering support to automotive customers.

Thresher produces cast components used to manufacture products like automotive water pumps, torque boxes, engine cradles, and suspension components.

The company will be installing two Toshiba 350-ton and a “hi-bred” 650-ton high-pressure diecasting machine with a Wazniac high-performance shot end. The new work cells will include the necessary support equipment for the diecasting, including high-volume melting/holding furnaces.

High-pressure diecasting involves injecting molten metal into molds at high-velocity, using very high pressure after the mold is filled to increase the density of the finished casting. Thresher indicates it will be able to produce complex shapes with high accuracy and repeatability.

"The purchase of these machines will allow us expand our market and allow us to take on additional orders over the next two years,” according to Thresher CEO Tom Flessner. The manufacturer states it will be able to produce conventional diecastings in aluminum and metal-matrix composite, as well as in near-net shapes. It projects the new capabilities will lead to annual revenue increases of approximately $15 million.

“As we look to 2009, we'll continue to expand our business, increase our client-base, and offer a greater variety of products while increasing revenues for the company," stated Flessner.
