Process control software package includes installation, development support

American Casting LLC, Pryor, OK, has ordered NovaCast USA Inc.’s ATAS process control system to improve its metallurgical processes. The foundry, a subsidiary of American Cast Iron Pipe Co., produces gray iron and ductile iron castings in three electric induction furnaces, and produces castings weighing 30 to 2,000 lb for customers in agriculture, oil field, general industry, waterworks, construction, and machine tools markets.

NovaCast USA is a subsidiary of NovaCast Foundry Solutions AB, a Swedish developer of software for metalcasting processes, including from modeling, simulation, and process control. It also offers consulting services.

The Adaptive Thermal Analysis System (ATAS®) platform combines thermal analysis with artificial intelligence to help foundries reduce casting defects, improve yield, and reduce variations in physical properties. NovaCast adds that it’s also effective for “increasing metallurgical competence” because provides operators with new knowledge about melting process parameters. The system consists of a PC linked to an A/D converter and a stand for test cups, so users have access to metallurgical information.

The order from American Castings includes complete installation services and six months of support for process development.
