Harvey Industries Buys Hayes Lemmerz Mexico Foundry
President says second operation positions company for global growth
Harvey Industries has purchased an aluminum foundry in Nuevo Laredo, Mexico, from Hayes Lemmerz International for an unreported price. The 360,000-ft2 green sand casting operation supplies aluminum and polymer powertrain components to automotive OEMs and truck manufacturers, and employs about 350 workers.
Since restructuring in 2009, Hayes Lemmerz has emphasized its wheel products —aluminum and steel wheels for passenger cars and light trucks; steel wheels for commercial trucks and trailers — and has sold off several of its powertrain component operations.
The Mexico facility is the second plant that Harvey Industries has acquired from Hayes Lemmerz. In July 2007, Harvey acquired the group’s 120,000-ft2 Wabash, IN, aluminum foundry, with its sand casting, machining, assembly, and testing capabilities.
Company president Jerome Harvey called the Nuevo Laredo purchase “very strategic for Harvey Industries. Combining Nuevo Laredo with our Wabash, IN, operations will better position the combined company to grow and compete in the global market.”
