National Advisory Committee on Occupational Safety and Health Seeks 12 Members

Nominations are currently being accepted by OSHA to serve on the 12-member National Advisory Committee on Occupational Safety and Health (NACOSH) in the following categories: public, management, labor, occupational safety, and occupational health.

Established by the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970, NACOSH advises, consults with, and makes recommendations to the Secretary of Labor and the Secretary of Health and Human Services on matters relating to the administration of the OSH Act. The Secretaries may seek the input from NACOSH, as their member duties are solely advisory and consultative.

The NACOSH meets up to four times per year and members serve a two-year term. Nominees are being sought for management (2), labor (2), and occupational health (2 - designated by the Sec. of HHS), occupational safety (2), and public (4 - two of whom are designated by the Sec. of HHS). The advice supplied by this membership helps the Secretaries as they address subjects such as guidance and outreach, research needs and priorities, regulatory matters, and other activities implemented to reduce work-related deaths, issues, and injuries.

Nominations are being accepted until November 28, 2011 and can be submitted in several ways: electronically through the website www.regulations.gov; the Federal eRulemaking Portal; by fax at 202-693-1948; or through the mail addressed to OSHA Docket Office, Room N-2625, U.S. Department of Labor, 200 Constitution Ave. NW, Washington, DC 20210.

For more information on the current membership of NACOSH, you can visit their website, www.osha.gov/dop/nacosh/nacosh.html, which includes all news releases, Federal Register notices, and reports.
