Dana Names GM Europe President as New CEO

Feb. 4, 2004
Burns credited with turnaround of automaker’s division

Dana Corp., one of the leading suppliers of automotive components, has chosen General Motors Europe president Michael J. Burns as its new chief executive officer/president, effective March 1. Burns will also be a director of Toledo-based Dana Corp.

Former CEO/president Joseph Magliochetti died unexpectedly in September. Bill Carroll, who had been acting president and chief operating officer, will retire March 1.

Burns has been responsible for all GM’s European operations since 1998. He’s credited with a turnaround of those operations indicated by marketshare gain, new product development, product quality improvements, and “significant cost reductions,” according to Dana.

Also, Dana announce that acting chairman Glen Hiner will remain in that role.
