Summit Foundry Systems Expanding Manufacturing

Summit Foundry Systems is planning an expansion of its headquarters operation in New Haven, IN, a project it budgets at $1 million. According to company president Richard L. Meyer, the project will include a building addition and new equipment to meet growing customer demand. “Summit Foundry Systems is the leading producer of custom indexing mold-handling systems for the foundry industry,” according to Meyer. “We currently do not have enough manufacturing space to meet our customers’ demands. This expansion project is necessary so our company can maintain its industry-leading position.” The company custom-engineers and builds automation systems and process equipment for sand handling and mold handling, as well as general purpose equipment and systems for metalcasting operations. It employs 11 workers and expects to add eight more workers by 2015. A construction contract has been assigned to Fort Wayne-based CME Corp. to expand Summit Foundry Systems’ 18,000-ft ² plant by approximately 12,000 ft ². As well as the building addition Summit Foundry Systems will be adding about $120,000 in new manufacturing equipment. The expansion project is due to be completed late in June. The New Haven City Council approved a 10-year real-estate tax phase-in and a seven-year personal property tax phase-in, to accommodate the project. The Allen County Department of Planning Services assisted the council with the abatement process.
