CIC Caps Big Year for FEF

Dec. 18, 2005
Foundation names scholarship winners, presents awards, and sets new name

The Foundry Educational Foundation finished 2005 with its annual College Industry Conference in Chicago, November 10-12. It was a milestone event for the foundation, drawing well over 300 people for three days of meetings, awards presentations, and career recruitment opportunities. Notably, 42 organizations used the Nov. 10 Industry Information session to profile themselves to the 101 FEF student delegates from 25 FEF-accredited and -affiliated schools.

The students and the university programs are the foundation’s focus, so the presentation of awards and scholarships once more served to link their scholarship to their future development — and that of the metalcasting industry. Seventeen awards sponsored by the FEF and various metalcasting companies (see the list, below).

The FEF presented its awards to the industry, too. Recognition was made of Honda of America Mfg., in Ana, OH, as “Foundry of the Year”; and of Applied Process Inc., Livonia, MI, as “Supplier of the Year.”

FEF’s highest award, the E.J. Walsh Award, was presented R. Conner Warren of Citation Corp.

It had been an eventful year for FEF: The organization established a new standing committee, the Key Professor Committee, with equal status and Executive Committee representation as the existing committee. The committee chair is FEF Key

Professor Russ Rosmait, of Pittsburg State University. Also, the foundation’s Public Relations Committee was renamed the Communications Committee.

The foundation also welcomed two new Key Professors — Dr. Srinath Viswanathan at the University of Alabama, and Dr. Yalcin Ertekin at Tri-State University — while Dr. Doru Stefanescu takes the Key Professorship for The Ohio State University.

A less welcome change was the relocation of FEF’s offices to the AFS headquarters in Schaumburg, IL, following a fire July 15 at the former office in Rolling Meadows, IL.

A less dramatic change, but a lasting one, is coming in the organization’s identity: the foundation is now rebranded as FEF, the Foundation for Metal Casting Education, and an updated logo has been unveiled.
