The new Sandvik Coromant M5Q90 tangential milling cutter, fitted with PCD tangential inserts, is designed to complete ‘cubing’ in a single operation without creating burrs.
Contour-profile grinding wheels
The technology of contour-profiled grinding wheels is a "comeback" for metal binders for LACH diamond and CBN grinding wheels. The resin-bond grinding wheel needs several processing steps during the deep grinding of components made of carbide, high-alloyed steels or ceramics, such as aluminium oxide, magnesium-oxide or non-oxide ceramics, such as silicon nitride. The new metal bond “contour-profiled” grinding wheel accomplishes these in a single time- and cost-saving step.
Almost every profile type, concave or convex, is possible, even with smallest tolerances of up to 0.005 mm.
Quick, heavy metal removal
Efficient metal-removal is a constant objective in rough machining, and the new Harvi™ Ultra 8X helical milling cutter will remove more than 1,000 cu.cm (61 cu.in.) of Ti-6Al-4V titanium (hard aerospace superalloy) in just one minute.
Variable-helix geometry reduces vibration significantly, and using 12-mm and 10-mm inserts also helps, as their smaller size means more inserts in the cutter body, more inserts engaged in the workpiece, and more inserts to absorb the pounding of a heavy machining operation.
Through-the-tool coolant nozzles direct cutting fluid where it’s needed most, and an enhanced flute design assures maximum chip evacuation.

Productivity + longer tool life
The newly redesigned Perfomax indexable insert drills have a drill body that offers exceptional productivity and longer tool life. Featuring higher drilling parameters as well as exceptional chip control and evacuation, the drill’s flutes have improved helix angles and smoother chip flute exits, plus an engineered wave pattern that minimizes contact between chips and flute surfaces. Furthermore, for up to 140% longer drill body tool life, Seco laser hardens the fronts of Perfomax’s flutes. A hardness of HRC 60 allows the drill to withstand chip erosion for much longer periods of time.
Perfomax drill bodies are available in diameters ranging 0.594 to 2.375 in. (15 to 59 mm); in length-to-diameter ratios of 2xD, 3xD, 4xD and 5xD; and in most spindle interfaces.
Helical thread forming in aluminum alloys
The Emuge Punch Tap is the first tool/technology of its kind for helical thread forming in cast and wrought aluminum alloys and similar lightweight materials. Emuge Punch Taps provide a new, shortened tool path process for producing internal threads in under half a second, resulting in significantly less energy consumption during the machining process and a reduction in threading time by 75% compared to cold forming and conventional tapping.
Punch Taps are made from a special HSSE-PM alloy optimized for toughness and long wear, and have an exclusive design offering several benefits such as unique teeth geometry that produces threads in a single step. The Punch Tap features two rows of flutes off-set 180° from each other and extending in a helical curve all the way down to the usable application depth. This design enables an extremely efficient tool path that is approximately 15 times shorter for a M6 thread with a depth of 15mm compared to traditional cutting or cold-forming taps. The shortened toolpath facilitates a threading process which is completed in less than half a second.
