Many refractory products are custom-developed and manufactured for particular applications, and also usually contaminated with material they have absorbed while lining furnaces or ladles, which makes the recycling process a challenge.

IBC in Partnership Developing New Specialty Alloy

Nov. 10, 2014
Trials already in progress in venture with copper-alloy specialist, distributor Baoshida Swissmetal Ltd., Avins USA Inc. Focus on North America, Europe

IBC Advanced Alloys Corporation’s Copper Alloys division is forming a partnership with Baoshida Swissmetal Ltd. and Avins USA Inc. to manufacture a high-performance alloy for use in multiple markets and applications. Without revealing the nature of the new alloy nor its industrial applications, IBC indicated the initial focus for the venture will be in North American and European markets. Though it initially estimated its anticipated revenues, the group later disclaimed those forecasts.

The terms and equity shares of the partnership also are unknown. IBC confirmed that each of the three partners will contribute, “at their own cost, the time and expenses necessary to bring this alloy to market.”

IBC manufactures and distributes beryllium-aluminum investment castings through its separate IBC Engineered Materials division. The Copper Alloys division manufactures and distributes castings and forgings in beryllium copper, chrome copper, and aluminum bronze; and copper-alloy forgings for plastic mold tooling and resistance welding applications.

"We are pleased that Baoshida Swissmetal and Avins have chosen us as their partner on this project and we have already begun preparation at our facilities for the first trial,” according to IBC vice president for business development, Douglas Veitch. “We are continuing to develop our manufacturing capabilities in new alloys, and working with a globally recognized and respected company like Baoshida Swissmetal will open the door for additional opportunities in the future.”

Baoshida Swissmetal Ltd. is a Switzerland-based manufacturer and distributor of copper and copper-alloy products for electronics, aerospace, military, oil-and-gas exploration, automotive, and consumer goods markets.

Avins USA Inc. is Baoshida Swissmetal’s exclusive North American distributor, and a supplier of specialty bars, rods, wires, tubing, strip, foils, forgings, castings, billets and custom-extruded profiles.
