CM-Tec Expands Machining Capabilities

New business prompts aluminum foundry to increases CNC services
Cast Metals Technology, Inc. (CM-Tec) recently completed installing a Haas VF-3 mill with a rotary table and SL-10 Haas lathe. A foundry spokesman indicated the new CNC equipment was added to complete additional business from among CM-Tec’s current customers. CM-Tec is a green sand casting and permanent mold foundry with plants in Winchester and Yorktown, IN. Its castings are produced in low to high volumes and in weights from several ounces up to 200 lb. The company produces patterns in-house and offers heat treating and 5-Axis CNC machining services. Its customers include compressor and pump manufacturers and producers of petroleum drilling machinery, automotive parts, machine tools, food processing equipment, construction products, power generation and electrical equipment, and agricultural machinery. The Haas Automation Inc. VF-3 is vertical machining center measuring 40x20x25 in., with a 40 taper, a 20-hp vector drive, 7,500-rpm capability, and a 20-station carousel tool changer. It’s capable of 1,000 ipm (25.4 m/min) rapids, and features 1 MB program memory. Haas Automation’s CNC lathes are available with a wide range of capabilities, including dual-spindle and Y-axis models capable if high-production rates and reduced setup times. CM-Tec’s two aluminum foundries and CNC machine shop are part of an organization that also includes four ferrous foundries.
