Intermet Names New CFO

Whalen is formerly a finance exec with Magna Intl.

August 15, 2006 -- Intermet Corp. reports that William H. Whalen has joined the company from Magna Intl. as the new v.p. of Finance and chief financial officer. Whalen replaces Bob Belts, and will assume responsibility for all financial operations of the company.

Whalen has 25 years experience in various manufacturing and financial positions, including 15 years in the Tier 1 automotive supply sector. With Magna he led the finance organization for the group’s Intier Automotive Interiors operations in North America and Asia. Before that, he held financial positions with United Technologies Corp. and Ernst & Young.

He holds an M.B.A. from the University of Virgina, is a C.P.A. and C.M.A., and he has experience implementing "best-in-class" financial processes and procedures.

Belts had been v.p. – Finance/CFO at Intermet since August 2002, and he announced earlier this year that he would be leaving the manufacturer of cast-metal automotive components.
