Business must pick up, Domestic Casting manager says
Domestic Casting L.L.C. is laying off 25% of the workers at its ferrous foundry in Shippensburg, PA, according to local news reports. The plant is the former General Casting Co. – Domestic Division, and affiliated other foundries in Indiana and Ohio, including Cast metals Technology, Fisher Cast Steel Products, Kenton Iron Products, and Liberty Casting Co. According to the local report, 29 workers have been notified of the layoffs, which are expected to be temporary. “Business must pick up before we’ll be able to call them back,” plant manager Matt Gingrich explained to the Carlisle (PA) Sentinel. “We expect business to bounce back, and our plan is to call these people back. We’re not planning to go anywhere.” Domestic Casting produces about 10,000 tons/year of gray and ductile iron castings, ranging in weight from 1 to 500 lb.
