Alcoa Inc. is planning to invest up to $25 million to expand its Alcoa Howmet plant in Hampton, VA. The investment is meant to increase production capacity for investment castings for industrial gas turbines. Read more

Ashland's New Binders, Catalysts Aimed at Wind-Energy Suppliers
Ashland Performance Materials is targeting foundries that produce castings for windmill turbines with its introduction of the Magnaset line of binders and catalysts. The Magnaset binders and catalysts were specifically designed for foundries that supply wind turbine hubs, or any nodular iron castings where metallurgical properties at the casting surface are critical to control. OSHA Cites Safety/Health Standards at Sturm Ruger
OSHA’s New Hampshire area director Rosemarie Ohar said the agency’s inspectors identified numerous mechanical, respirator protection, electrical, lead, fire, explosive, and other hazards. She said the conditions “must be effectively and continuously addressed to protect the workers at this plant from potentially deadly or disabling injuries and illnesses now and in the future.” Read more
