Telematics-Based Collision Avoidance System

March 8, 2022
Advanced helps plant managers ensure that only trained operators can access mobile equipment, via RFID or PIN, and ensures that safety checklists are completed.

ACCESS CONTROL GOUP’s Advanced telematics system addresses the shortage of trained equipment operators and heavy turnover for manufacturers (and distribution centers, ports and other locations) where a mobile equipment fleet is crucial to keep operations running.

Restricting equipment to trained operators, complying with OSHA-mandated safety checklists, and ensuring equipment is used safely is the key to efficiency and safety. Another challenge is collision with equipment and pedestrians. A major accident that involves injury can cost a business up to $150,000, and lower employee morale – which may further complicate the labor shortage issue.

Advanced is a telematics system to help fleet owners manage access to equipment via RFID or PIN. Only trained operators can log in to the equipment.

Upon log in, a safety checklist is presented that must be completed to use the equipment. If any critical issue is found during checklist, equipment can be placed in maintenance lock to prevent damage or injury.

During the use of the equipment, a digital impact sensor monitors use of the equipment if there is higher than normal impact, Advanced records the impact and notifies designated personnel via email or SMS.

Advanced also records weight carried by the equipment and the speed.

Another proximity-sensing system called Aware is available to monitor pedestrians and equipment. If equipment or pedestrian is detected within preset proximity of a moving equipment, an alarm sounds on equipment, pedestrians are warned via a wearable tag.

Aware uses UWB technology which is accurate and easy to implement compared to other technologies such as magnetic field or ultrasound.

The Cloud-based AssetPro 360 platform provides up-to-the-minute insight on how the fleet is operating via easy-to-follow KPIs. The user-friendly interface allows stakeholders to manage devices, operators, and schedule maintenance. Create a benchmark with one location. Using this benchmark allows operations, safety, and finance teams to assess enterprise wide benefits.  Learn more at www.theaccessway.com
