Bottom-Pouring Ladles

RIMROCK calls the bottom-pour ladles it is now supplying “revolutionary,” because its flexibility allows operators to produce superior castings while eliminating dross, for higher yields. The design is keyed by an internal cylinder that increases head pressure, making it easier to fill long, thin sections to ensure a mold-filling process of any volume of metal, with minimal turbulence, at various locations within the working envelope. It also minimizes oxide transfer to the casting because metal is drawn from below the surface. No sprue cup is needed.

Rapid Prototyping Method

THE PROTOTYPER introduces “Insty-Metals”, a rapid prototyping method combining a pattern with a ceramic-type shell for the tool. This allows for the production of aluminum, steel, iron, zinc, or other material castings in days. Perfect for any operation needing low volumes of cast parts in a very short time, without the need for an expensive, time-consuming tool. An invaluable resource for foundries, helping to develop and provide options to their customers for their prototype casting programs.

Heavy-Duty Turntables

SKF’s new heavy-duty turntables have been engineered for smooth, long-lasting operation in a wide range of industrial “lazy susan”-type activities, including work and assembly stations. Turntables offer a variety of sizes, up to 7.25 in. long and 2.95 in. high. Available in cast iron or stainless steel, they can accommodate loads ranging from 1,000 lbs up to 25,000 lbs. Sizes can be specified as lockable or non-lockable units. All bearings are greased and sealed for life to eliminate the need for future lubrication.

Hand-Tilt Gearing

D&E FOUNDRY LADLES’ new hand-tilt gearing with 1:4 gear ratio on a ladle of 800-lb iron capacity and smaller, close to the old hand tilt ladles. The 1:4 gear ratio means that in two turns or less an operator will rotate the ladle 90°, offering a quick response time when pouring. Offers better control of the ladle, less fatigue, and safer operation. The gearing is self-braking (once the hand wheel is stopped, the ladle stops pouring and remains in position) and will not roll back to the upright position if the operator lets go of the hand wheel.

Pulse-Jet Filter Cleaning

FILTERSENSE’s ValvePAC pulse-jet filter cleaning saves compressed air and provides instant valve diagnostics for reducing pulse-jet baghouse and cartridge-style dust collector maintenance. It can operate as a standalone device, or can network to FilterSense’s B-PAC control systems for overall baghouse performance analysis and optimized control. ValvePAC is available in modular packages to handle small filters (16 rows or less) and large, multi-compartment fabric filters (240 rows or more).

Fluid for Heavy-Duty Machining, Grinding

CIMCOOL’s Cimperel Z Fluids are soluble oil products for heavy-duty machining and grinding of ferrous and nonferrous metals. Offers long fluid life, corrosion protection, high lubricity, low foaming characteristics, and excellent rancidity control. The Z Fluids have been designed to provide many benefits, including up to 30% increases in sump life, up to 40% improved tool life, and at least 20% increase in productivity, along with a greatly reduced concentrate usages.

Combined 6-Axis/Linear Robot

KUKA ROBOTICS’ Jet robot is a 6-axis robot mounted on a linear unit, designed for customers with applications that entail long reach tasks. It is mounted either upside down or sideways on the linear rail, depending on the application. It is available in four configurations with different reaches and working ranges. The robot combines the speed of a linear axis and the flexibility of a 6-axis robot, making it ideal for handling tasks in multiple industries, such as injection molding, die casting, and machine tool manufacturing.

Carbon and Hydrogen/Moisture Determinator

LECO CORP.’s RC612 multiphase carbon and hydrogen/moisture determinator quantifies carbon and hydrogen present in various organic and inorganic samples, and identifies the source of several types of carbon content. Features include a state-of-the-art furnace control system, allowing the temperature of the furnace to be programmed from near-ambient to 1,100°C; lower detection limits for an expanded detection range; and either oxidizing or inert atmospheres. Windows-based software and an ergonomic design improve instrument functionality and serviceability.

Open-Loop, Axial Piston Pump

OILGEAR CO.’s PVWH open-loop, axial-piston pump provides low horsepower for high-performance applications. Available in 10 different sizes, reaching a maximum pressure of 5,000 PSI, the extensive range of displacements offered allow users to select the size to match specific design requirements and applications. The PVWH pump allow for field interchangeability without disconnecting from the drive or system piping. Pressure lubrication on bearings assures smooth control performance with better compensating stability, reliability, and repeatability. Other features include rugged cylinder design; valve-plate ported rear or top and bottom; SAE heavy-duty shaft; maximum pressure of 5,800 PSI.

Depressed-Center Grinding Wheels

Design improvements in CARBORUNDUM’s Carbo GoldCut depressed-center wheels extend their service life by at least 25%, the supplier claims, so operators may use fewer wheels per day. The effect is to reduce time spent changing wheels and increase availability, improving productivity and lowering total grinding cost. Carbo GoldCut wheels are used on right-angle grinders for general purpose cutting applications. The improved bond formula is particularly effective for cutting stainless steel, or in any application where material contamination should be avoided. The wheels are available in 4.5-, 5- and 6-in. diameters, 0.0045 thickness, and 7/8-inch holes to fit the standard right-angle air and electric grinders.

Crane and Hoist Inspection

KONECRANES’ new crane and hoist inspection service, MAINMAN, is a multi-point visual inspection of overhead lifting equipment enhanced by the company’s proprietary software. Inspection results are delivered in a detailed report that can be hand delivered or accessed through the internet. The reports alert customers of maintenance problems and points out areas that are not in compliance with OSHA standards. All Mainman inspections are performed by trained inspectors who are certified to KCI-Masters standards. Mainman’s customized reports capture data on the condition of hundreds of equipment components and satisfies regulatory requirements. Inspectors pinpoint safety and compliance issues and monitor critical items that can result in equipment down time. Recommendations for preventative maintenance are prioritized by safety conditions, production risks, and inconsequential findings.

Multi-Range Heat Conductive Compound

DYLON INDUSTRIES’ Thermatrace TC is a high-temperature, graphite-filled putty-like material providing the broadest temperature range available in heat conductive compounds. It will significantly increase the heat transference from one surface to another and reduce hot spots; permit heat sources to operate at lower temperatures; prolong heating element life; lower power consumption; and reduce initial heat-up time. Features a temperature range of -121° to 1,750°F (-250° to 954°C). The cured compound is water-resistant, highly resistant to acid fumes and salts, and unaffected by oils, greases, and organic solvents. There are no toxic materials or off gases in Thermatrace TC. Can be air-dried in 24-48 hours, or heated to 185°F for immediate use.

Bio-Based Lubricant

CORTEC CORP.’s EcoLine Bearing, Chain, & Roller lubricant is bio-based, rust-preventative, and formulated with American-grown soybeans for superior lubricity. It contains 86% less petroleum than traditional lubricants without sacrificing performance characteristics or changing the metal surface properties. Ready-to-use, it can be applied by automatic or manual equipment, providing protection for up to 24 months.

Single Gas Monitor

INDUSTRIAL SCIENTIFIC CORP.’s GasBadgePro single gas monitor introduces a hydrogen-cyanide (HCN) sensor option, providing an ideal personal monitor used by safety professionals, plant managers, and first responders. Can be quickly adapted with interchangeable “smart” sensors to monitor unsafe levels of oxygen or any one of the following: ammonia, carbon monoxide, chlorine, chlorine dioxide, hydrogen cyanide, hydrogen sulfide, nitrogen dioxide, phosphine, and sulfur dioxide. Each monitor carries a lifetime warranty and comes standard with STEL and TWA readings, datalogging up to one year of survey data, and an event-logger recording the past 15 alarm events. Housed in a rugged enclosure, features a large LCD display with backlighting, and can be configured to display gas readings by percent by volume or parts per million.
