FS&D Completes Study on Brembo Expansion

Aug. 12, 2008
Ferrous foundry will add 75,000 mtpy

Atlanta-based engineering group Foundry Solutions & Design reports it has completed a comprehensive study for a significant expansion of the ferrous foundry at Brembo Poland Spolka Zo.o., in Dabrowa Gornicza, Poland.

Brembo is a specialty manufacturer of high-performance brake systems for cars and motorcycles. The group is based in Italy and has manufacturing plants in 11 countries.

The Polish plant, which started up in 2005, produces brake discs and other cast iron components for car and trucks, and the expansion will add another 75,000-metric tons/year of casting capacity. A new induction melt shop is planned, along with molding and coremaking equipment and finishing facilities, in a highly automated operation that will make extensive use of robotic systems.

Construction is expected to begin soon for expansion, and the additional capacity will be online by the first quarter 2010.
