The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Region 5 has cited Top Die Casting Co., South Beloit, WI, for failing to test its emissions for dioxins and furans. EPA also alleges failed to comply with notification and reporting requirements.
“EPA's mission is to protect public health and the environment,” Region 5 administrator Thomas Skinner stated in a release. “We will take whatever steps are needed to ensure compliance with the Clean Air Act.”
EPA indicated its findings are preliminary and Top Die Casting has 30 days from the receipt of the notice to meet with the agency to discuss the charges. To resolve the allegations, EPA’s next step may be to issue a compliance order, assess an administrative penalty, or file a legal complaint against the company.
In a local news report, Top Die Casting co-owner Jerry McCurdy indicated he was not familiar with the details of EPA’s charges but that the firm aimed to address the situation.
