The CNH Global J.I. Case Foundry in Mt. Pleasant, WI, was struck by fire October 23. It's not know what initiated the blaze, which started on the building's rubber roof. A Fire Department official told local reporters the melting furnace may have been to blame, though an investigation is ongoing.
The blaze required six area fire departments to combat. That the fire broke out on the roof of the building made the effort somewhat difficult. "You have to be careful when putting water on a furnace," asst. fire chief Mark Pierce said. "You use it sparingly."
The two-alarm fire was not seen doing serious damage to the foundry. A company spokesman said all workers were safely accounted for, and that work would resume soon. One firefighter was treated for a neck injury, said one report.
