Two operating divisions of MetalTek International, Inc. have posted notable safety milestones. The Wisconsin Centrifugal division in Waukesha recently passed 1 million man-hours of work without a lost time incident, over a roughly 12-month period beginning in June 2008.
MetalTek states that this achievement reflects Wisconsin Centrifugal’s behavior-based safety culture, its management’s commitment to continuous safety training, inspection and monitoring activities, and an enhanced incident-review process.
“Safety is a fundamental part of what we do,” according to Wisconsin Centrifugal president E.J. Kubick. “Our culture empowers our people to be responsible for the safety of themselves and the group. We are proud of our record in a hazardous environment, but will not be satisfied until all incidents are avoided.”
In addition, MetalTek’s Wisconsin Investcast division in Watertown, WI, has passed more than two years of operation without a lost-time injury. That sequence began in February 2007.
Wisconsin Investcast began implementing an enhanced safety program in 2006 as a part of an effort to improve its “safety culture.” It says its safety program “empowers employees, as individuals, to make safe choices in their daily lives at work and at home.”
Wisconsin Investcast’s plant manager Eric Skibo stated: “The results we have obtained occur because of the commitment each employee has for working in a safe environment. We continually need to be aware of our fellow workers and surroundings and ask the simple question, ‘Is that safe?’ I applaud the results so far and look forward to this only being the beginning of our quest for safety.”
MetalTek, produces high-alloy components for temperature, wear, and corrosive applications at five manufacturing plants in Wisconsin, Missouri, and Tennessee. It states that both safety milestones are the result of their employees’ “personal dedication to safety awareness and practices.”
