Members of the Indiana House of Representatives recently were presented an intiative to benefit Indiana's foundries.

Rep. David Niezgodski (D-South Bend) was joined by fellow members in supporting House Bill 1728, requiring U.S.-produced metalcastings to be used in most state and local public works projects in Indiana.

Present Indiana law provides a similar requirement for steel produced in the U.S.

"Indiana's foundry industry is one of the top five producers of castings in this country, and one of the oldest types of manufacturers in our state, with many foundries in existence in Indiana for more than a century," said Niezgodski.
