Equity Group Adds Two More Ferrous Foundries

June 25, 2019
Speyside acquires Hazleton Casting, and Weatherly Casting and Machine — a "one-stop, full-service cast-iron foundry"

Speyside Foundry Holdings, a company backed by Speyside Equity Fund I LP, acquired Hazleton Casting Co. in Hazleton, PA, and Weatherly Casting and Machine Co. in Weatherly, PA. The value of the purchases was not announced. The transaction was completed in mid-June.

Speyside is an Ann Arbor, MI-based investment group that previously has acquired Stahl Specialty Co., in Kingsville, MO; Dalton Foundry Co., Warsaw, IN; Sawbrook Steel Castings Co., Cincinnati; and Ashland Foundry and Machine Works Inc., Ashland, PA. Its holding also include numerous other manufacturing businesses. Among its past investment is the now-closed Pacific Steel Castings.

Hazleton Casting and Weatherly Casting and Machine operate as a “one-stop, full-service cast-iron foundry for ferrous and special alloys,” according to their website. Their products include pumps and pumping equipment, valves, fittings, and numerous other components for power, energy, mining, construction, and industrial markets.

Hazleton Casting specializes in alloy steel casting, and the foundry in northeastern Pennsylvania reportedly has operated continuously since the early 1900s. It offers design consultation, patternmaking, core- and moldmaking, coreless-induction furnace melting, heat treatment, and finish machining.

In addition, the operation includes the Hazleton Casting Center for Additive Manufacturing (HCC-AM), anchored by a Viridis 3D RAM123 robotic 3D sand printer for cores and molds.

Weatherly Casting and Machine is a specialty jobbing foundry producing "very large iron and iron alloy castings for the material-handling and power-generation industries, as well as pump and other durable goods manufacturers.

Weatherly also offers machining services and laboratory and non-destructive testing.

“Hazleton and Weatherly offer a fuller suite of solutions, both alloys and capabilities, for our existing portfolio foundries, Sawbrook and Ashland,” according to Jeffrey Stone, managing director for Speyside. "As the industry has been consolidating in North America over the past several decades, we strive to provide our customers with high quality, dependable and sustainable long-term partnerships.”
