Safer, Cleaner Gas Detection Cameras

TELEDYNE FLIR is offering a new visual detector for fossil fuel emissions it explains will ensure prevention of the avoidable release of methane into the atmosphere, and drive down emissions, specifically for European manufacturers striving to comply with EU Methane Regulation (2024/1787).

The advanced FLIR G-Series Optical Gas Imaging (OGI) cameras - the FLIR Gx320, G620, and Gx620 - will help manufacturers meet these evolving standards with safety, efficiency, and confidence, it claims.

The FLIR G-Series is engineered to make gas leak detection faster, safer, and more accurate than before. The cooled OGI cameras deliver pinpoint precision when detecting methane, hydrocarbons, and over 400 volatile organic compounds (VOCs).

The G-Series cameras offer Type 1 leak sensitivity, meaning they will detect leaks as small as 17 g/hr, and “in-camera quantification” allows the device to instantly measure leak size and type with no additional tools required.

Inspectors are able to survey areas up to 9x faster than traditional gas sniffers, and the high-resolution thermal imaging delivers up to 640 × 480 IR resolution for clearer, more accurate visuals. With enhanced thermal contrast, gas cloud visibility is improved and features precise temperature differentiation.

Gas detection does not occur in perfect lab conditions; it takes place in rugged, potentially hazardous environments and thus the G-Series cameras are designed to be durable and flexible. They are certified for use in Class 1, Division 2 or Zone 2 (hazardous) locations, and are ATEX-compliant for use in explosive atmospheres.

The ergonomic design features a lightweight body and rotating 4-inch LCD touchscreen to simplify inspections in tight or elevated areas.

In addition, FLIR G-Series cameras are built to streamline documentation and simplify compliance workflows. The Multi-REC mode records infrared and visible spectrum video simultaneously, and on-camera annotation allows the inspector to highlight leak sources, record voice notes, and tag important data easily. The device is designed for automatic upload and Cloud-storage of images and videos from the field, and will synch with tablets and/or mobile devices via WiFi or Bluetooth for instant data transfer and reporting.

FLIR G-Series OGI cameras are a complete solution for tackling methane emissions while supporting manufacturers’ compliance goals, improving operational safety, and avoiding regulatory penalties.
