A leader in performance engine coating technologies, Bekaert (Sorevi) added a Dymon 5 coating machine for racing and other high-performance engine components at its Research Triangle Park (RTP) plant in Raleigh-Durham, NC. The Belgium-based company added the new machinery to the plant, located less than three hours from the heart of NASCAR country, Mooresville, NC. The move was made to “intensify focus” to the U.S. markets.
Marketed under the Cavidur trade name, the unique composition and structure results offer the most reliable surface engineered solutions for highly loaded engine components, such as aluminum pistons, piston pins, valves, and suspension components. The machinery can also handle items in high volumes, like valve train components and diesel injection components.
“We are thrilled with the installation of the Dymon 5 coating machine and the new business opportunities that this generates,” said product market manager of the company’s automotive/racing unit, Mark Boghe. “Expanding the RTP facility with this new coating machine enables us to better respond to our customers’ needs for new coating applications and shorter delivery times.”
Bakaert’s DLC Cavidur coatings have provided race teams with better performing engines, increasing lifetime of highly loaded parts at optimum performance levels, significantly decreasing friction experienced with uncoated components, and providing excellent adhesion under extreme conditions. It reduces cold welding wear and pitting degradation, and offers a hardness greater than 20 GPa (measured by nano indentation).
The RTP plant offers one-stop service: service preparation, such as in-house superfinishing and tribofinishing, coating expertise, and traceability. The worldwide customer-oriented dedicated coating teams are supported by state-of-the-art R&D and engineering, and have over 10 years of proven experience. It is also possible to recoat used parts after refinishing.
Bekaert (Sorevi) is a top supplier to NASCAR, Formula 1, rally, DTM, and Formula 3 markets with its Cavidur DLC coatings.
