SinterCast CGI Output Setting Records

Feb. 21, 2023
The metallurgical process developer reported record totals for series production of compacted graphite iron during 2022.

SinterCast AB closed last year reporting continued strong demand for compacted-graphite iron castings, with year-over-year series production up 13% for Q4 2022. By volume, the output of 3.5 million “engine equivalents” (175,000 metric tons) set a new Q4 production record for SinterCast CGI.

Also, Q4 2022 marked the fourth-consecutive quarter of record CGI series production for SinterCast.

Stockholm-based SinterCast is the developer and licenser of the most widely used technology for controlling production of CGI, a lightweight cast iron that offers greater tensile strength, stiffness, and fatigue strength than gray iron or aluminum. Series production of CGI mainly involves diesel and gas engine manufacturers seeking to reduce weight, noise, and emissions for their designs.

The process control system is centered on a sampling and testing technology that SinterCast has licensed to 57 installations worldwide, including 25 fully automated systems and 25 mini-systems. It also offers a ladle-tracking technology for foundries.

SinterCast reported commissioning a new Ladle Tracker installation at the Teksid foundry in Mexico during early-December, and installation of a new SinterCast mini-system at the Dongya foundry in China. Looking forward, it revealed plans to install a SinterCast System 4000 at the Dongfeng Auto foundry in China during Q2 2023.
